A pedestrian was struck and killed Friday evening on Interstate 805 south of state Route 94, authorities said.
It happened around 6:15 p.m. in the northbound lanes of the freeway approaching Market Street, according to a California Highway Patrol incident log.
A few minutes earlier, a 911 caller told a CHP dispatcher that a man was walking across the freeway, according to the log. The witness reported he was in the far-left lane, then ended up in the far-right lane, and was ultimately struck near a middle lane.
Witnesses at the scene told Highway Patrol officers that the vehicle that struck the pedestrian may have left the scene, according to the incident log.
The pedestrian died at the scene, and Highway Patrol officers requested that personnel from the county Medical Examiner’s Office respond.
A traffic alert was issued in the area, and authorities briefly shut down all lanes of north I-805. The two left lanes were reopened about 6:30 p.m., according to the CHP log. The right lanes remained closed until a little after 8 p.m., according to Caltrans San Diego.
No other information about the crash was immediately available.
