Driver strikes, seriously injures pedestrian in Midway District

A pickup driver struck and seriously injured a pedestrian Thursday night in the Midway District, San Diego police said.

It happened about 7:40 on Rosecrans Street near Sports Arena Boulevard where the victim, a roughly 50-year-old man, was crossing the street while not in a marked crosswalk, Officer Robert Heims said in a news release.

The driver of a 2002 Ford F-150 was heading north on Rosecrans and had just passed through a green light at Sports Arena Boulevard when he collided with the victim, Heims said.

The victim suffered multiple fractures to his upper and lower body, but the injuries were not expected to be life-threatening, Heims said. Paramedics took him to a hospital for treatment.

Uninjured in the crash was the pickup’s driver, a 45-year-old man, Heims said. The San Diego Police Department’s traffic division is investigating the incident.
